Learning To Be The Light (LTBTL) will be accepting
new and used computer equipment in order to refurbish it
and place it in the home of an eligible Hoover City
Schools student. Eligibility shall be determined
by Hoover City Schools, not by LTBTL. At the
minimum, each eligible student's family will receive a
Windows® PC, a monitor, a keyboard and a mouse. In
order to receive the PC, the family must have broadband
internet access (DSL or Cable Modem).LTBTL will
deliver and setup the PC and go over basic usage with
the student's family. If available, LTBTL will
also give the family the following: printer,
wireless router. For families that have a high
school junior or senior, LTBTL will also give the
student a laptop, if available, in addition to the PC.
LTBTL is a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher.
The PCs we give to the qualifying families will have,
when possible, Windows 7 Professional
and Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Business
installed on them.
LTBTL pays for the licenses with contributions received
from the community. Each Windows 7 license costs
$6.00 and each MS Office license costs $6.00 (Total
licensing cost per PC/Laptop is $12.00). All
licenses are full licenses that do not expire.
There is no cost to the receiving family.
In order to give the best experience, here are the
minimum requirements of any PC given to LTBTL:

Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, or
Windows 7 |

80 gb IDE or SATA |

Optical Drive: |

We understand that most people don't know what
their systems contain, so a good rule of thumb is
that if you're running Windows XP, Windows Vista or
Windows 7, we can use your system. We will
make any upgrades to the system if it falls short of
the above requirements.
Restoration media (CDs, DVDs) for computers come
in really handy, so if you have them, we can use
them. If not, we will order them from the
manufacturer.
Monitors are desperately needed as well.
Due to space constraints, we are only able to accept
LCD (flatscreen) monitors, not CRT (tube) monitors.
Monitors must be in working condition, as we do not
service them.
Printers will be accepted also, however they must
be in good working condition. Like monitors,
we do not service printers.
Working keyboards, mice, hubs, switches, USB
hubs, USB cables, will also be accepted. If
you have software you'd like to give, we will accept
it also as long as you have uninstalled it from your
existing computer and have the license key for it.
If you have equipment that you'd like to give,
but are unsure if we can use it, send us an e-mail
to
info@learningtobethelight.org
with details of what you have, and we'll let you
know if we can use it.
Updated 1/2018 -
Effective 2018 we will limit the computers we accept
to laptops. Due to no longer having space at
Artists on the Bluff, we will no longer be able to
have space to store the computers, moniotors, and
other equipment.
